Children’s GPS trackers: safety and privacy.

A child’s location is sensitive information. Before buying, inspect who can see the map, how sharing works and whether accounts can be protected against unauthorised access. Prefer limited access for trusted caregivers and explain the purpose of the tracker in age-appropriate language.

What to check

Check the provider’s privacy notice, retention settings and deletion process. Avoid publishing routes or screenshots that reveal home, school or regular movements. A watch with calling or camera features brings additional choices about contacts, notifications and school rules.

Before you rely on it

Agree when location checks are appropriate and review that agreement as the child grows. A tracker cannot guarantee safety, and its battery or connection may fail. Establish a simple plan for missed calls or a delayed arrival instead of relying exclusively on the map.
