How reliable are GPS trackers for dogs?

A dog tracker needs two connections: a satellite position and a way to send it to your phone. Clear sky helps positioning; mobile coverage determines whether a new location reaches the app. A marker on a map is therefore not a guarantee of a current, exact position.

What to check

Compare the timestamp, update interval and accuracy indicator rather than trusting the pin alone. Buildings, dense foliage and indoor rooms can affect reception. When a position seems implausible, check the last update and search nearby instead of treating a stale point as live information.

Before you rely on it

Before relying on a device, try its live mode, boundary notifications and attachment on familiar walks. Keep it charged and check the subscription. A tracker supports a search; identification tags, recall training and secure handling remain useful even when the app works normally.
